Here’s Chris with a wonderful walkthrough of how his frontend developer brain looks at a design comp. It’s extremely insightful

When confronted with a design comp, My brain tends to gravitate towards some of the non-obvious implementation solutions. In other words, my brain immediately goes to the “oh shit, that looks hard” end of things. Granted, our workflow doesn’t have me looking at full comps all that often, but when working with other teams I definitely do.

And I’m reminded of my agency days, where designers would hand me comps that could only be described as magazine ads. This was pre-grid and flexbox days, so a lot more things fell into the “that’s impossible” bucket, which led to a lot of antagonism between designers and developers. It’s great to think that as the tools in our CSS toolkit grow, the number of times frontend people have to say “that’s impossible” is diminishing.
