Our hometown — Oil City, PA — held the yearly fireworks show on July 3rd so as not to compete with the neighboring towns’ festivities on the 4th of July. The event’s name? JOLLY JULY 3RD.
We looked forward to heading to the park every year for food, friends, fireworks, and an almost-guaranteed sighting of a dude walking around with a snake draped around his shoulders. More dudes had pet ferrets on leashes, and still other dudes had parrots on their shoulders. Why did they do this? We’ll never know. But dudes with exotic pets on their shoulders was just part of the magic of Jolly July 3rd.

The New Separation of Concerns
