I turned 41 yesterday! I spent it like I do every year, enjoying time with my family at the Outer Banks. My absolutely incredible wife made me an absolutely incredible atomic design birthday cake!

I love using my birthday as an opportunity to reflect and share. Last year, I shared 40 thoughts about life at 40, and had the idea to use subsequent birthdays to share additional thoughts. So here’s my 41st thought at 41 years old:
Bigger than boxes

I believe we are so much bigger than the boxes created by society and our own limiting thinking. In this post, I dig into how I’ve been challenging, redesigning, and even removing the boxes around me.
For me, I feel like this shift in mentality has really broken the dam. With the boxes out of the way, there’s FAR less friction, and I’m able to pursue important and meaningful projects. I did a little self-indulgent birthday roundup of the things I’ve dug into now that I’ve reimagined the boxes in my life:

I’m really proud of all of this work, yet I know for sure that this isn’t because I’m uniquely special. I think it’s possible for anyone to reexamine the boxes that shape their existence and redesign them in order to live a fuller life.
So I’ll leave you with these questions: What stories do you tell yourself? What are the boxes you try to fit into? Are there parts of yourself you feel you’re leaving behind in order to fit into those boxes? What aspects of these boxes ought to be reconsidered, redesigned, or removed in order for you to live a fuller life?
Feel free to explore these questions and if you’re up to it feel free to reply to this email and let me know what’s on your mind.

Many thanks and much love,
