Making Things in December #1: New Song
For my first day of making something every day in December, I recorded a song. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out!
A few notes and observations:
- I picked up on a guitar riff that my wife Melissa was playing around with the last time we jammed together. She’s way more melodic than I am; I mainly stay on the rhythmic end of things.
- This song is pretty uncharacteristic for me: it’s a bit moodier than than usual, and I’m not really a guitar player
- It’s always tough to capture a live feel when you’re overdubbing everything. As such, there aren’t as many dynamics as I’d like to have, but it gets the job done.
- There’s not too much structure here. It would be good to carve out some space for proper verses and maybe have some sort of a bridge. I’d also pare this way down instead of meandering for 6 minutes.
Alrighty, so Day 1 is in the bag, and man does it feel good to make stuff. Which I guess is the whole point of this. Looking forward to keeping this up.
